EDGEFIELD, S.C. — Registration for the highly anticipated fall Becoming an Outdoors-Woman workshop in Columbiana, Alabama, has begun, opening on Aug. 1 at 7 a.m. CDT for first-time participants, and will open Aug. 7 at 7 a.m. for all others.
The event, put together by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, will take place on Oct. 6-8, 2023, at the Alabama 4-H Center near Columbiana, Alabama, in Shelby County.
The Becoming an Outdoors-Woman workshop welcomes women ages 18 and older to a weekend filled with hands-on instruction on a variety of outdoor activities. Whether you’re an avid adventurer or new to the outdoors, BOW offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature and develop new skills in a fun and supportive atmosphere.
Participants can tailor their experience by choosing four classes from over 50 courses. Courses cover a diverse range of outdoor activities, including backyard wildlife, camp cooking, map and compass, camping, mountain biking, shooting sports, fishing, hunting, canoeing, nature photography, archery, ATV handling, bird watching, boat handling and more. The BOW workshop aims to empower women with new skills and to foster lasting friendships and create unforgettable memories.
“These women not only learn new skills in a safe, friendly atmosphere, but they also make new friends and have a good girls’ weekend,” BOW coordinator Marisa Futral said.
The Alabama National Wild Turkey Federation State Chapter is a long-time BOW supporter and a sponsor of this year’s event.
“The NWTF has been a great partner for this event; they’ve been sponsoring the BOW for over the past 10 years financially,” Futral said. “This helps keep our costs down, especially for these ladies who are seeing if they like these activities for the first time.”
Enrollment for the workshop requires a $275 registration fee, which covers meals, dormitory-style lodging, program materials and instruction.
