CLEARFIELD, Utah, Sept. 17, 2025 – The Monroe Canyon Fire in central Utah has scorched more than 70,000 acres of forest and sagebrush, leaving critical wildlife habitat in urgent need of recovery. In response, the Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) is launching a Monroe Canyon Fire Recovery fundraising campaign for conservation projects that will restore lands supporting more than 15,000 mule deer and countless other species. With Utah welcoming over 15 million visitors each year, MDF is calling on people across the country to help protect the rural landscapes, wildlife, and communities that make the American West so extraordinary.
Every dollar raised will directly support on-the-ground recovery projects. These include restoring mule deer and big game habitat, repairing and improving water systems such as springs, ponds, and water diversions, purchasing seed to replant native vegetation, and repairing or installing fencing to protect critical habitat. By investing in these projects now, MDF and its partners aim to safeguard the long-term resilience of wildlife and landscapes in this critical part of the state.
Already this year, the Mule Deer Foundation has committed $2.6 million towards the overall Utah Watershed Restoration Initiative to address the immediate impacts of wildfires and the long-term resource health across Utah’s public lands. As part of this commitment, MDF can match every donation made to the Monroe Canyon Fire Recovery campaign dollar-for-dollar. That means a $50 gift becomes $100, and a $500 gift becomes $1,000, doubling the ability to restore habitat, support wildlife, and help heal the lands impacted by the Monroe Canyon Fire.
“The Monroe Fire burned through mule deer habitat where lack of active forest management had left diseased and stagnant growth. With this fundraising effort, the Mule Deer Foundation will help in restoring these lands and vital habitat.” said Greg Sheehan, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Mule Deer Foundation. “The funds raised through this effort will go directly into rebuilding healthy winter range and migration corridors so mule deer and countless other species can thrive again. Together, we can turn loss into renewal.”
MDF works closely with local, state, and federal partners to ensure resources are strategically invested where they are needed most. Help restore America’s wildlife and rural landscapes. Donate today through the Monroe Canyon Fire Recovery webpage and make your support count twice. Every contribution strengthens wildlife, habitat, water systems, and migration corridors that define the American West, and helps rural communities recover from Utah’s largest wildfire of the year. https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/monroe-canyon-fire-restoration
