Tim Wells’ Dirty Trick for Velvet Bucks

A whitetail buck’s antlers are almost grown, and now is the time to find if a big one is in your area.  They are probably still nocturnal due to the high summer temperatures, but if they are living near your special spot, they will likely be there on opening day, unless dramatic changes in crops occur, such as cutting a cornfield.  Even then, deer won’t move far, and you know which ones to look for when the season opens.

Summer Scrapes

Fellow writer Brian Kightlinger has been experimenting with summer scrapes for the past two years and often posts on this site and others, where he shares videos of deer reacting to Buck Stick and other attractant methods.  Every bowhunter knows about deer scrapes in November, but it takes a lot of convincing to create mock scrapes in the summer.  In case Brian wasn’t able to convince you about this practice, check out this short video by Tim Wells.  His method is simple, easy to replicate, and the video speaks for itself.
