Are you as excited as I am to watch deer interact with scrapes? It’s truly fascinating! Throughout the year, I enjoy observing their intriguing communication at my mock scrapes. Each experience teaches me more about their unique behaviors and the amazing way they use glands to connect with each other. Let’s embark on this exciting journey together from the scrape!
Establishing Hierarchy
As we wrap up July, it’s fascinating to observe bachelor groups of bucks maintaining their bonds! One exciting insight I’ve gained during this period is about how they establish dominance at scrapes. Check out the video above—it beautifully captures a staging area where bucks gather before heading into the fields. I have two scrapes in this vibrant spot, and it’s incredible to see their interactions! In the footage, an impressive older six-point buck confidently demonstrates his dominance over a younger counterpart. But wait—just as the younger buck regains his footing, TT8 steps in, ready to take charge as the leader of the group! It’s a thrilling glimpse into their world!
Satellite Bucks
TT8 is undoubtedly the standout buck in his group, and it’s exciting to see some satellite bucks joining the scene! Recently, TT8 has been frequenting the inside corner of the BuckRope scrape in the bean field, which is fantastic to witness. In the video, you’ll spot Mr. Scratch, a confident satellite buck, making his mark in the area. While Mr. Scratch is expected to move on once the beans turn yellow, TT8 will proudly hold his place as the top buck on the farm. It’s a fantastic time to observe these dynamics!
